| | I missed you! Well, OK, not really. I mean... I miss YOU, but I didn't miss xanga. It's been too long though.
I'll sum up the past few months:
1: Went to the DU vs. MN Saturday night game in Denver. The area around the arena pretty much had nothing to do. We didn't have time to explore DU, but there weren't too many places to grab a beer before the game - at least not many that we found. It's no Minnesota that's for sure. The game itself sucked as you know if you watched it. L and I made a double-sided sign and hardly got to use it. But heck, being at a Gopher hockey game was sweet enough when we don't get to watch any of them in the first place. Hell, I don't even get to watch hockey seeing we don't have cable - more on that later. The arena reminded me of a larger version of Michigan Tech's rink. Pretty stale. The fans sucked - including the one who threw peanuts at me when I held up the Forever minneSota No. 1 (FSN) sign after a fight. But really, they did suck. For a great hockey school, DU fans were quiet. Their school song was only played once (canned music - they didn't have a band) and hardly anyone sang it. We were disappointed in DU fans. It wasn't even a heavy snow day (ie: fans were still skiing) and it wasn't a holiday that students would be gone. Heck, we couldn't even find an actual student section.
2: We went to Nebraska for Thanksgiving to visit L's bro and sis-in-law. Her parents decided to drive to Lincoln too. It was the same weekend that CU played them, but we opted to watch it on TV as tickets were about $60. We did, though, take a walking tour of the stadium. It was pretty cool. It was also good to see their house and hang out with them and L's parents again.
3.1: We drove to Wisconsin for Christmas. Seeing we left two days earlier than anticipated, we stopped in Minneapolis for two nights with some good friends (thanks former roomies). It was honestly such a great decision. If any of you live away from friends and family, you know what I'm talking about. I got to see nearly everyone I truly miss. The only people missing were Skiddy and MessyJesse in all reality. Even T2 and Quebecky made it, Ballz hung around for longer than he maybe should have, and Sallys. Oh Sallys!
3.2: After Minneapolis we headed to Wisconsin to visit the kids for a couple hours on the way up to my parents. We miss not being around our niece and nephew. We even got to pick up our niece from pre-school. She loved it! They's so adorable! In fact, check it out:
3:3: We made it to my parents and spent a few great days with them. My bro and his girlfriend drove over on Christmas day and got to spend some more quality time. I really do miss family. No, I don't plan on moving back to the Midwest anytime soon, but I do miss them.
3.4: Sadly, the worst part about the entire break was that my aunt (and God-mother) died of cancer the Monday before Christmas. She suffered quite a bit in the last few months especially, and it's probably for the better, but it was hard. Out of all my aunts and uncles, I'm closest with that set - and so are my parents. It was my dad's brother's wife and they lived about an hour from my parents. The only upside of that was getting to see my entire dad's side of the family and have L meet one of my uncles for the first time - despite being together for about six years.
3.5: We left Saturday to beat weather, stayed at my bro's place in Minneapolis and then made the 14 hour trip back to Boulder. We really couldn't have asked for better weather on the way back home. It was great.
4: New Year's was pretty uneventful. We didn't really do much. We hung out with our friend J, had a few drinks and that was about it.
5: We went to Winter Park last Saturday. We have a 4-pack for the resort and have been itching to get out - me especially with my new skis. One of our friends from grad school was planning to spend NYs with us and then meet her family in WP to ski as well, but she had a nasty sickness and was stuck in bed for about 3 days. She ended up postponing her trip until some other time TBD. Anyway, back to the trip to WP. We knew the mtns were supposed to be hammered with snow, so when we woke up we checked the road report and the resort's site to see if they got snow. Everything looked OK so we started the roughly 1-1.5 hr drive up there. As we got into the mountains it started snowing (it wasn't supposed to until that afternoon), and as we got closer to our exit it started snowing more. About 20 miles from the resort (keep in mind 20 miles in snow when going over a mountain pass at about 12,000 ft means about 40 minutes), and decided to turn around in our 2WD Corolla. When we went through the town we passed I decided to stop and ask how well they plow the roads up there (because there were already snow covered and slippery - I did a brake check to test them in a safe area). She said they plow well and we made the trip back up to the resort. Boy are we glad we did. They got about 7.5 inches of snow that day and we were skiing powder all day. It was great!
6: I may head to Vail tonight as they got pounded today it sounds like. We'll see though. I'm still torn - I know, I know, I'm stupid to not go when I could maybe get a free ticket...hmm...when you put it that way...
7: We may go snowshoeing tomorrow, but haven't fully decided yet I don't think - or at least on a location.
8: I'm heading to Salt Lake in a couple weeks for an outdoor industry show. I'll have a crazy hectic schedule when there, but it'll be good networking and I get to stay with our good friend Ry Ry. That will be fun in and of itself.
9: No worries, the Boulder wildfire you likely heard about if you watch the national news - it was still 5 miles from our apartment and would have had to burn through all of Boulder to get us. That being said, we could easily see the flames from our apartment as they took off uphill.
10: I didn't really have anything else, but I like having that nice even number! Til next time...
